Die Methode basiert auf einer extrem einfachen, und genialen Idee. Zunächst wird eine Vorloch in das Hauptrohr gebohrt. Dann wird die Aushalsung gezogen und das abzweigende Rohr eingelötet. Die Aushalsung ist so genau, dass das Lot durch Kapillarwirkung in die Lötstelle fließt. Die auf diese Weise hergestellte Verbindung ist genauso haltbar wie das Rohr selbst.

Das Geheimnis von T-DRILL ist der Aushalskopf. Das Vorloch und die Aushalsung werden mit einem Werkzeug hergestellt. Der Bohrer wird aus gehärtetem Spezialstahl hergestellt und die Aushalsfinger sind so geformt, dass sie keine Brüche oder metallurgische Veränderungen in der Aushalsung verursachen, die die Festigkeit der Verbindung verringern könnten. Das Design des T-Bohrkopf ist im Grunde sehr einfach. Er ist robust, widersteht starker Beanspruchung, und ist leicht zu warten.
